A group project for all of us to enjoy

I’ve been wanting to come up with a long-term project for a long time but I could never settle on a concrete idea. I knew I wanted it to be a monthly freebie but I also knew I wanted to have some sort of purpose or theme. As I was working on these ornaments for the shop the thought hit me — this is the theme! Instead of making it a new product to sell I decided to make it the start of the project.

The plan is to offer one freebie per month throughout 2017. The freebies will be called the See the Light Ornaments because they will all be ornaments (even though you may not want to even hear that word after the next couple of weeks – lol!). By the end of 2017 we’ll have these four ornaments plus the twelve we’ll work on next year, for a total of sixteen ornaments. My thought is that if you make two of each of the ornaments you’ll have 32 ornaments for next year’s tree!

I’m starting the collection now, with four ornaments, to end 2016 with a thank you project. It’s a small token of my gratitude to those of you that still visit and shop at A Little Hut. Your support means the world to me — the world! To those of you that may be new to my site — welcome and I hope you enjoy it here.

Why See the Light?
I was trying to come up with a name for the collection and all I had was the word “ornaments” — so creative, I know. My daughter, Catalina, happened to come by when I was trying to figure out what to call this whole thing. I told her what I had (basically nothing!). Her back was to the place where I had the ornaments hanging for photos. All she did was turn around and in a flash, she called them See the Light. And that was it. As soon as I heard the words come out of her mouth I knew that was it. It just spoke to me on many levels. I’ve always thought that God speaks to us through others and in particular through our children. For some reason, I thought this was one of those times. I have no idea how she came up with the name but it felt special right away.

I’m not sure the name means anything specifically, but I like that it can be interpreted in different ways by different people. I’ve thought about it and I’ve adopted the idea that we ‘see the light’ of creativity through working with our hands. We’re transported to a different mood, feeling and state of being — calm and quiet — light. At least that’s my hope for you — for all of us. That’s why I do all this crazy paper thing — to share my creative moments with you through all these projects.

So, if you’d like to join in the fun please feel free to download the files here. I created a specific section of the shop for the collection (all free) and the ornaments will pop up there on the 1st day of every month. I will also be sending a little reminder that the ornament is posted, with my monthly newsletter.

Once you’ve created your ornament I hope you feel comfortable enough to share with the rest of us! If you do, use the hashtag #seethelight so we can enjoy your creations.

I hope you enjoy the project and I can’t wait to see what you make!
