Creativity fills the heart
For those of us, that enjoy exploring creative pursuits we understand that there is more to it than just making something. Using our hands helps us to disconnect from our routines and concerns, even if it’s just for a few minutes. It replenishes us and gives us a boost of energy with a twist of happiness that is unequal. My mission is to design products that you can use to find those moments of creative bliss and accomplishment. Because creativity really does fill the heart. Hugs! – Patricia
It's always been about paper
I opened A Little Hut in 2004 after friends that saw a birthday card I made by hand suggested that I should sell my work. I also happened to be trying to find ways to get away from sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time. So, I started out by selling stationery, printables and hand cut paper illustrations. After many months of this, I realized that I preferred to devote more time to designing than producing my ideas. Cutting projects one-by-one wasn’t giving me the time I needed. As it turned out, relief was on the way – I discovered cutting machines.
My business immediately transformed, yet stayed the same. I am still able to create new designs and put them together myself (I still loves working by hand), and now I have the added bonus of teaching others how to have fun with paper too. Making and passing it on – it’s the best of all worlds.
The core elements of my designs have stayed the same. I work with graphic images as well as nature inspired themes and I apply them to the creation of paper illustrations, cutting files, fabric and gift wrap. A collection of rubber stamps is on its way too!
Spreading the word
My work has been featured in online publications such as Huffington Post, Apartment Therapy, Decor8, Poppytalk, Lifehacker, Bloesem and Design Sponge among others. I was the first artist featured in Made in Paper and I have published tutorials on the Craft, Country Living, and Do It Yourself magazines. I’ve also been featured on Martha Stewart radio and she was a guest crafter on HGTV’s That’s Clever and Going Green with Yolanda Green (Channel 39 in Houston). Another big highlight of my career was being named the 2013 Scotchbrand’s Most Gifted Wrapper in a contest held in New York City.
For the love of books
My first book, Home, Paper, Scissors: Decorative Paper Accessories for the Home was published in 2009. Sharing my love for paper with so many others was truly a dream come true. The book is a collection of more than 30 paper craft projects that use paper and recyclable materials. My second book, Flower Nook: A Coloring Book was published in the fall of 2015. It’s a collection of 50 of her nature inspired illustrations.
