I can’t believe we’re 6 months into the year and I’m just getting around to posting something new. It really dawned on me just now when I saw my last blog post here. I’ve been busy at work and life and frankly, I’ve felt pretty drained — creatively speaking. I almost feel like I need to reintroduce myself – yikes!
The creativity rollercoaster is a conundrum because I can’t make anything when I’m tired but if I go too long without making anything then I get antsy. Not. Awesome.
I supposed that’s why this year has been more about drawing (a quick way to get something done) than sitting in front of my computer and designing some more after work.
These are just some illustrations that I made while watching mind-numbing TV on my iPad Pro. They’re fun to make but then I don’t know what to do with them. They feel like bits and pieces of a story floating around in my head that just pop up and that’s it. Done.
It was a busy spring — get-togethers with friends, an awesome wedding, family birthdays and lots of work — and it was a great treat to have learning adventure in Michigan. It was a week-long leadership course that made me crave going to school again. It totally fed my mind and it was great to get away, absorb info and enjoy lower temperatures. That’s where I took that selfie at the top (on my birthday — the first time in my life that I wasn’t with family or anyone I know — it was ok but weird) and this one smack in the middle of the U of M stadium. I’m not an ardent football fan but I have to admit that was fun — when am I ever going to do that again. The guys in the group acted like 10 yr olds the minute they hit the field – lol.
Fast forward to about a month ago when I finally felt like I could tackle more projects for the shop. I was shooting for a self-imposed July 1st posting date which didn’t happen. I’m a day late (technical difficulties) but yaaaayyy! I’m here again.
I remembered that a few years ago I did a Christmas in July posting (the Nutcracker was part of that) and I had so much fun with it. This time I didn’t want it to be too over the top but still feel holiday-ish. I also wanted to keep it simple. These are small projects that are perfect for a lazy hot summer day. There are three sets and they each have a card, a frameable piece and a matchbox that would be great for small gifts like jewelry or a gift card. I also included a holly wreath card and a summery looking card that I’ve had on my computer for months and somehow it never made its way to the shop.
So, now that I’ve finally broken the “when am I going to post again” barrier I feel like a weight has been lifted and I can move on. We’ll what I come up with next.
If you have any feedback, ideas or you just want to say hi please feel free to reply here or send me a message. I hope you’re all having a restful summer or enjoying cooler temps if you’re way, way south of us.
Happy July!
